Did you know titles often happen last? Or that I almost always write these in stream-of-consciousness?
Or that I’m sweating it this morning, writing this a day after I wanted to send it (there’s vulnerability #1). So put on your favorite musical (I’ve put on Batboy this morning), grab a cup of something (for me it’s coffee with oatmilk creamer and a soda water on the side), and settle in for a little bit of a rollercoaster.
This week, I’m focusing a little less on the behind the scenes of Crayon Advisory, a tax preparation and planning firm, and almost entirely on me, Megan Justice, the person behind the firm.
Yesterday, and the entire week, if I’m being honest, ran away from me. I had a few things in the morning I needed to get done (and no, I didn’t quite get through all of them). Then I had lunch. And then I had a social thing with some close accounting people.
There were so many purposes behind the social last night. But the biggest one was connection.
Oh were there connections.
I was privileged to watch and see new connections made, old connections revisited, and tenuous connections strengthened. I was even privileged enough to be part of all of those types of connections.
I know I’m not alone when I say this: the work that I do is lonely on so many levels:
As a solo-prenuer
As an individual in an industry where we can only share so much
As an individual who isn’t meeting success, “at scale,” and may never
As an individual who hasn’t always been able to build connections with people other than by virtue of proximity made either by a job or by age
As an introvert who finds connections enjoyable but also exhausting
Last night was about starting to put forward solutions to those points of loneliness that I know I’m not the only one who has. In doing so, some of my own vulnerabilities were exposed. Out there in the open like raw wounds. But there were and are people out there to catch me. I might be a solo-prenuer, but I’m not alone.
Last Week in Crayon Advisory:
Just a short list. Some of these will be highlighted…eventually. Maybe next week. Maybe several weeks out.

Code of Conduct draft for new project
Template and write a script to create efile acceptance notifications
Revise engagement letter templates to include a set for prior year returns to be prepared

Tax preparation things (it’s here and in full swing).
What are you working on?
